Margaret Virginia Franklin
Class of '35

Margaret Virginia Franklin, a member of the SJC Class of 1935, died Nov. 10, 2009, at Frederick (MD) Memorial Hospital. She was 94 and looking forward to her 75th SJC Reunion in 2010.

Born Sept. 29, 1915, in Thurmont, MD, where she continued to reside, she was a daughter of the late John Nathaniel and Margaret Elizabeth Fox Franklin.

Peg was a graduate of Emmitsburg High School and received a BA degree in dietary studies from St. Joseph College. She had been employed as a dietitian at St. Joseph's Provincial House in the Marian Center. She served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and was a lifetime member of Emmitsburg Presbyterian Church, where she sang in the choir. Peg was also a founding member of the Emmitsburg Community Chorus and an active member of the Waynesboro Chapter of Alpha Iota Sorority.

Surviving are a sister-in-law, Lyla M. Franklin of Thurmont; two nephews, Carl Larsen Jr. and wife, Marie, of Surprise, AZ, and C. Wilson Franklin Jr., and wife, Jacqueline, of Social Circle, GA.; two nieces, Elise Hall of Littleton, CO, and Linda Franklin and husband, Owen Schwartz, of Thurmont; seven great-nieces and nephews; and two great-great-nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three sisters, Sarah Elizabeth Larsen, Mary Etta Franklin and Leeanna Franklin; and three brothers, John C., George E. and C. Wilson Franklin.
