Nancy Lee Harkness
Class of '70
Nancy Lee Harkness, who devoted her professional career to assisting and counseling children and families in crisis, died peacefully on Feb. 28, 2010, after a long and courageous battle with kidney disease.
After graduating from SJC in 1970, Nancy earned a master’s degree in social work from Boston College. She was an advocate for the homeless and the neediest members of a community. For all, she worked tirelessly to obtain services to help, support and encourage. She was known as the "Miracle Worker," and scores of the children and adults with whom she worked kept in touch with her throughout her life.
Nancy was the daughter of the late David and Margaret Harkness of Norwalk, CT and Sandwich, MA. She is survived by two sisters, Arlene, and husband, Richard Porter of Sandwich; Sharon, and husband Robert Hanner of Sandwich; a brother, David Harkness and wife Cynthia of Wilton, CT; and nieces and nephews, Gregory, Kevin, Kristin, Kelsey, Lindsay, Robbie and Amy. Nancy also leaves many good and faithful friends who were with her throughout her illness. Donations in Nancy's memory may be made to the American Kidney Fund, 6110 Executive Blvd., Rockville, MD 02852.| MEDITATIONS |
