Georgiana Hansen Pope
Class of '53
Georgiana Hansen Pope of Tappan, NY, died Sept. 10, 2007, after a long illness. She was 75. Georgie was an active bridge player until her entry into a hospital about a month before her death. She was a lifetime resident of the Tappan-Sparkill area of Orangetown, NY. She obtained her B.S. degree from SJC in 1953 and later earned a master's degree. She taught in the South Orangetown School District for many years but spent a two-year sabbatical teaching at an American military base in Japan.
A new part of Georgie’s life started in 1982 with her marriage to Thomas Pope, a long-time friend. Her activities in addition to bridge included gardening, complex cross-stitch embroidery and gourmet cooking. Georgiana's survivors include her stepdaughter, Lydia France (Michael), a sister Helen Orlando, and a number of cousins.
