In Memoriam
Barbara Saganowich Quinn
Class of '59
SJC Alumnae Trustee
Barbara Saganowich Quinn of Annandale, VA, a trustee of the St. Joseph College Alumnae Association Board and devoted co-secretary for the Class of 1959, died Aug. 31, 2008 at INOVA Fairfax Hospital after suffering a stroke. She was 70.
After graduating from SJC in 1959, Barbara worked for National Geographic magazine. She married JJ Quinn in 1961. They and their three children shared a lifetime of traveling to the far ends of the earth. She was elected to the SJC Alumnae Board of Trustees and served on the Philanthropy and Reunion committees
“Barbara was a kind, intelligent, witty and devout woman,” said Joan Mehl Tolle, her friend and class co-secretary. “She was an avid gardener, reader and a gifted writer. She shared her many talents with her eight grandchildren, who were the joy of her life,” Joan added. “God, family and helping others always came first. A mighty spirit filled that little frame.”
Barbara’s parents, Joseph A. and Anna Balmer Saganowich, predeceased her. She is survived by her son, John Quinn III; daughters, Kelly Murphy (Tom) and Shannon Quinn (Ernie); and grandchildren, Sean, Erin, Shannon and Keenan Murphy, Kailee and John Quinn IV, and Iris and Katherine Schuck. Memorial contributions may be made to Poor Clare Monastery, 2505 Stonehedge Dr., Alexandria, VA 22306.
