Rose Durkin Shaw
Class of '36
Rose Durkin Shaw, a 1936 graduate of SJC, died Feb. 20, 2009 at Ginger Cove Health Center in Annapolis, MD. She was 95. Rose was a special education teacher in the Wilmington and New Castle, DE, public schools from the late 1960s to the mid-1970s.
Born Rose Geraldine Durkin in Detroit, she moved to Washington, D.C., at age 13 and graduated in 1932 from Notre Dame Academy. She received an undergraduate degree in home economics in 1936 from SJC, and a master's degree in special education from the University of Delaware in the late 1960s.
Rose was predeceased by her husband, William H. Shaw. She is survived by her four children, Peter Shaw, Moira Dehn, Kevin Shaw and Elizabeth Coe; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
