Mary Ruppert Van Hollen
Class of '43

Mary Ruppert Van Hollen died at her Towson, MD, home on December 15, 2009. Born in Baltimore, Mary was a member of the SJC Class of 1943 and majored in education. She was also a 1939 graduate of Baltimore’s Seton High School.

While raising her family in Catonsville, MD, Mary was a substitute teacher at St. Mark’s and St. Agnes elementary schools. After her children were grown, she taught biology full time at Archbishop Keogh High School from 1968 until 1984. Mary was also a longtime volunteer at the Little Sisters of the Poor Nursing Home in Catonsville.

Mary and her husband Louis H. Van Hollen were married in 1946. She is also survived by her two daughters, Candice Van Hollen Chesno SJC ’70, and her husband Thom; daughter Anne Van Hollen Madden and her husband Jeff; and three sons, Louis H. Van Hollen, Jr. and his wife Yvonne Perret; Christopher Van Hollen and his wife Nancy; and Gregory Van Hollen and his wife Robyn, as well as nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
