Mary Agnes Bucker Walter
Class of '57
Mary Agnes Bucker Walter, a member of the SJC Class of 1957, died January 9, 2010, at Gettysburg Hospital. A resident of Emmitsburg, Mary Agnes was born May 27, 1934, in Richmond, VA, to August E. and Alice Holzbach Bucker. After graduating from high school in Richmond, Mary Agnes enrolled at St. Joseph College on a full scholarship.
While raising her family, Mary Agnes was active in the community, volunteering at Mother Seton School, and served as president of the PTA. She also volunteered at the Seton Shrine Visitor’s Center and St. Philomena’s Bookstore. An extraordinary minister of Holy Communion, she visited the sick and infirm of St. Joseph Parish, Emmitsburg.
A former member of the SJC Alumnae Association Board of Trustees, Mary Agnes retired after many years as a secretary in the office of the Deputy Director of the National Fire Academy.
She is survived by her husband, John H. Walter, an alumnus of Mount St. Mary’s; a daughter, Susan M. Walter of California; and three sons, John D. and Mark D. Walter of Emmitsburg, and Gregory S. Walter of Fairfield, PA; five grandchildren; one great grandson; five brothers, A. Edward, Joseph and Michael Bucker, all of Richmond, Charles V. Bucker of Louisville, KY, and Thomas Bucker of Virginia Beach, VA; a sister, Alice Bucker Ross of Lexington, VA, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents and her son, Thomas X. Walter.
The family suggested memorial donations to Mother Seton School, 100 Creamery Road, Emmitsburg, MD 21727.
